  • History of ECN

The Ellis Cousins Newsletter (abbreviated ECN) was begun in 1979 by Bill and Carol Ellis solely for their own immediate Ellis family. In 1980 they began sending it out to a few others who were interested in genealogical research of the Ellis family name. In 1981 it was opened to all who were researching the Ellis surname in the southern states of the U.S. Soon thereafter the ECN began assisting Ellis researchers from all over the U.S. and Canada, as it continues today.

After twenty-two years of service publishing the ECN, Bill and Carol Ellis ceased their publishing endeavor so they could follow other interests and the pursuance of their own genealogy work on Bill's Ellis family line. The year 2001 will be the last full year of publication by Bill and Carol; however, they will retain rights to the back issues and the lending library and the gift shop items. It is their fond hope that ECN subscribers everywhere will give the new publisher much help and support.

    New Publisher for ECN

Effective January 1, 2002, the ECN will be published quarterly by Sharon Worthey of Grand Prairie, Texas. She is dedicated to sharing, preserving, coordinating and publishing family historical data on all Ellis families in the U.S. and Canada, including such variant spellings as Allis, Ellice, and Elliff. The ECN acts as a clearinghouse for information submitted by the members. The family data is published in a newsletter four times each year, the last week of January (Winter), April (Spring), July (Summer), and October (Fall). The newsletter averages about twenty pages each quarter, or about 80 to 90 pages per year.

Queries in ECN are free to paid member/subscribers. There is no limit to the number of queries which may be submitted during the year. There is also no limit to the number of words in each query, although the editors do reserve the right to shorten or abbreviate.

    How To Subscribe

Cost of membership/subscription for one year is $16.00 US ($21.00 outside the USA). Subscriptions start with the first (January) issue of each year. For those who join ECN during the last quarter of any year, you may choose between two options. You may opt to receive all four issues of the current year, or you may choose to pay an additional $8.00 US (for a total of $24.00 US) which would include the Summer and Fall issues of the current year, plus all four issues of the year to follow.

A surname index is published at the close of each year with the names of several thousand persons who were mentioned in ECN’s four issues for that year. To save money and postage, the index is not automatically sent out to the entire mailing list. It must be ordered separately, and costs an additional $4.00 US. When sending money for the index, please indicate which year you want.

Back issues are available at $4.00 US each issue, or $16.00 US for the four issues of any year. A surname index is available for each back year at $4.00 US.

Send all member/subscription requests to: Ellis Cousins Newsletter, P.O. Box 540576, Grand Prairie, TX 75054-0576.
